Graphics wearing out around the boot area?
Sep 28 2022
Are you having problems with your boots rubbing off your number plates and/or the decals on your airbox? You’re not alone.
With the latest generation of Motocross/Enduro bikes becoming more ergonomic and geometrically better suited for performance and handling, this is one consequence that has become standard across almost every manufacturer.
Yes, unfortunately with this area being the most prominent point of contact, these are always the first decals to wear. Being in constant friction with the pant material, boots, and worsened by knee braces, knee pads etc. there is near to no way of avoiding this problem.
The
lifespan of these can vary from rider to rider depending on rider skill,
protective gear etc. Generally, the faster the rider, the harder the grip, and
the quicker the wear.
The newer range of bikes are extremely common
for this due to their plastics shape and in some harsher cases, you will notice
that the pressure from the boots eventually rubs through to the exhaust.
Teams and riders will often install secondary
decals (either another layer of clear material or even skate deck material)
over the top to increase grip and protect the decals however, the abrasive
decals will then cause extra wear to boots and will shorten their lifespan
drastically…
Another option is the awesome accessory option created by Polisport known as their ‘Graphic Guards’ These bolt-on plastic guards are designed to sit over this specific area helping to prevent premature wear and/or tearing of the decals. For more info on these head to their website here.
